All Lanes Open Thursday at 4pm!!
Blythe Construction and the NCDOT will open all lanes on the I-85 design-build project from just north of Bringle Ferry Road to just north of Long Ferry Road (mile marker 77 to exit 81) at 4 pm Thursday Fenruary 28.
This milestone has been accomplished one month ahead of schedule.
Please note that even though all lanes are open on the project, there is still minor work to be done. Over the next few weeks crews may need to perform overnight lane closures, so we stress the importance of safety in the work zone! Please be aware of workers and keep to the posted speed limit.

About the Project
The NCDOT, Blythe Construction and their design partner The LPA Group of North Carolina, P.A. are in the final stages of widening and reconstructing I-85 near Spencer, N.C. in Rowan County. The project parameters are from just north of Bringle Ferry Road to just north of Long Ferry Road; a distance of about 3.3 miles. I-85 will be widened from four to eight through lanes with a 22-foot grassed median. The widening is being done to improve the safety and traffic carrying capacity of I-85.
The work will involve the reconstruction of existing intersections at Old Union Church Road (exit 79) and Long Ferry Road (exit 81). In addition, significant improvements will be made at both intersections to enhance ramp and service road access.
Cameras, fiber-optic cable, and overhead dynamic message signs will also be installed along I-85 as a part of this project. Vehicle detection devices will also be installed and connected to the Triad Regional Transportation Management Center. Construction is currently expected to be complete in the winter of 2007.
